Man Shot After Confronting Suspects Breaking Into Vehicles in West Houston

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Detectives with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Violent Offenders Unit are investigating a shooting that left a man critically injured early Saturday morning in west Houston.

Deputies were dispatched around 3:00 a.m. on February 14, 2026, to the 14100 block of Rio Bonito Road in the Howellville area in reference to a shooting. When they arrived, they found an adult male suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the torso.

Investigators say the victim had observed a group of males allegedly breaking into vehicles in a parking lot. When he approached the suspects, one of the individuals opened fire, striking him.

The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital in critical condition. Authorities say he is expected to recover.

At this time, the only description of the suspects is three Black males in their late teens to early twenties, wearing dark clothing and believed to have fled in a dark-colored sedan.

The investigation remains ongoing.
