BAYTOWN, Texas – A Baytown man was arrested and charged in connection with a road-rage shooting after deputies with the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office identified and apprehended the suspect less than a day after the incident.

According to the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Feb. 1, 2026, to reports of a shooting near the intersection of Kilgore Parkway and Southwinds Drive. The victim told deputies he was chased by another driver who fired multiple shots at his vehicle.

Detectives launched an immediate investigation and recovered a bullet lodged in one of the tires on the victim’s truck. Using the victim’s statements and surveillance footage from the area, investigators identified a suspect vehicle, located it, and detained the driver.

Authorities said evidence gathered during the traffic stop and from a nearby residence provided probable cause to obtain a warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony.

The suspect, Christian Canales of Baytown, was taken into custody and charged in connection with the shooting. Bond was set at $200,000 by Mike Wheat of Justice of the Peace Precinct 2.

The sheriff’s office thanked community members who assisted with evidence collection and praised deputies and detectives for their swift response. Officials said the investigation underscores their commitment to addressing violent crime and maintaining public safety in Chambers County.
