One Dead, One in Critical Condition After Boating Accident in Hitchcock

Hitchcock, Texas – On Friday, October 17th, at approximately 4:30 am, the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) responded to a request for assistance from the Hitchcock Police Department following reports of a boating accident in local waters.

Preliminary information indicates that two individuals—a male and a female—were ejected from a vessel during the incident. The female victim was located by first responders and transported by Life Flight to UTMB Galveston, where she remains in critical condition.

The GCSO Marine Division and Dive Team initiated recovery operations for the missing 26-year-old male. After an extensive search, the male victim was recovered from the water and pronounced deceased at the scene.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is leading the investigation into the cause of the accident. The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, including members of the Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Unit, are assisting TPWD with the investigation.
