Life Sentence for Conroe Man Who Brutally Attacked Ex-Girlfriend After Ambush

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX – A Montgomery County judge has sentenced 37-year-old Broderick Tyrone Turner Jr. to life in prison for a premeditated and violent attack on his former girlfriend, marking the end of a two-year pursuit for justice.
Turner was convicted on October 13, 2025, of Aggravated Assault – Family Violence Causing Serious Bodily Injury with a Deadly Weapon following a trial in the 359th District Court. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Jaime Wallace and Frances Manzo.
The assault took place on August 13, 2023, after Turner’s former girlfriend returned home from what she described as a terrifying day. Earlier that evening, while driving back from a trip, Turner attempted to kill her with a hammer. She escaped by jumping from his moving vehicle onto Interstate 10, where a retired law enforcement officer helped her and notified police.
As the victim was providing a report to officers, Turner stole her house keys, went to her residence, and hid in her closet. When she went to bed later that night, Turner ambushed her, stabbing her multiple times before stealing her phone and fleeing the scene.
Bleeding heavily, the victim managed to reach for her daughter’s phone and call 911. Conroe Police officers arrived within minutes and applied a tourniquet that saved her life. Investigators later found the victim’s blood inside Turner’s vehicle.
During the trial, prosecutors presented powerful testimony from Officer Paul Caughman, who described finding the victim bleeding from a severed artery and fading in and out of consciousness, and Investigator Cassondra Cunningham, who uncovered Turner’s digital trail of obsession and control, including text messages, searches, and GPS data that documented his plan to kill.
Turner testified in his own defense, claiming self-defense — a claim prosecutors dismantled by revealing his violent criminal past, including prior convictions for Kidnapping and Battery in another state and an incident in the Montgomery County Jail where he bit off another inmate’s nose. Another survivor also testified during sentencing, describing Turner’s history of strangulation, sexual assault, and kidnapping during their relationship.
In closing arguments, prosecutors urged the court to impose a life sentence to protect survivors and prevent future harm. Turner’s defense attorney asked for leniency, “to give him hope.” Judge Kathleen Hamilton firmly rejected that plea, declaring that “hope belongs with the survivors” before handing down the life sentence.
Reflecting on the verdict, District Attorney Brett Ligon said:
“Some crimes reveal the worst in humanity, but they also reveal the best in those who refuse to give up. The bravery of this survivor, the compassion of our first responders, and the diligence of our prosecutors remind us that even in the darkest moments, justice can still bring light.”
ADA Jaime Wallace added:
“Together, these survivors turned pain into purpose. They faced the monster who once terrorized them and stood taller than his violence. Their courage didn’t just bring justice — it changed lives and stopped him forever.”
