Two Arrested in Montgomery County for Copper Theft

On the morning of September 24, 2025, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office District 2 deputies arrested two men in connection with copper theft at an abandoned gas station on Sawdust Road.

Around 9 a.m., deputies on patrol noticed a suspicious vehicle parked behind the station at 650 Sawdust Road. The occupants, identified as 50-year-old Richard Sligar and 39-year-old Dan-el Dalman, consented to a search of the vehicle. Deputies discovered a large amount of copper wire, along with tools commonly used to strip wire.

Investigators also recovered two diaries that detailed specific construction sites and locations matching the area of the arrest, as well as more than $1,900 in cash believed to be proceeds from the sale of stolen copper.

A check of the surrounding area revealed a tampered electrical pole with missing copper wire that matched what was found in the vehicle. Deputies also discovered evidence that wire had been pulled from the gas station building.

Sligar and Dalman were arrested and transported to the Montgomery County Jail. Both face charges of Theft of Metal, a state jail felony.
