Shootout Erupts in Harris County Home: Two Dead, Several Injured in Family Dispute Turned Deadly

On October 1, 2023, a verbal disturbance escalated into a deadly shooting incident in Northwest Harris County. At around 10:16 am, Harris County Sheriff dispatch received two calls for service about a heated argument at a residence in the 8700 block of Cypressbrook Dr near Easton Commons.

By 10:26 am, the situation had escalated to an in-progress incident, prompting an urgent response from law enforcement. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a grim scene: multiple individuals had been shot, with indications pointing towards a family dispute gone terribly wrong. According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, seven people were involved in the altercation.

Among the victims, a 65-year-old woman, believed to be the homeowner, was found deceased. The 28-year-old daughter-in-law, who had made one of the initial 911 calls, also lost her life. She had been residing in the home with her 28-year-old husband, and the dispute was suspected to be related to their impending divorce.

Deputies revealed that three additional individuals had arrived at the residence in an attempt to de-escalate the situation. Tragically, they too became embroiled in the conflict, exchanging gunfire with the occupants of the home.

The 28-year-old husband removed a 2-year-old child from the gunfire.

The incident resulted in two confirmed fatalities on the scene, while two others with gunshot wounds were rushed to the hospital. Their conditions were described as stable to serious. The 28-year-old husband and the two men hospitalized were alleged to have fired shots during the confrontation.

Although the motive behind the dispute is suspected to be a break-up or divorce, authorities have not yet confirmed this. Sheriff Gonzalez emphasized the danger posed by such situations, both to those directly involved and innocent bystanders.

“We have received previous calls for service here concerning that 28-year-old married couple,” Sheriff Gonzalez stated, highlighting the history of disturbances involving the individuals in question.

The investigation is ongoing.
