Splendora ISD Elementary School Teacher Arrested for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas—The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Rene Jesus Tavera-Arango, 70, an elementary school teacher, on charges of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child.

Tavera-Arango has been employed in area school districts for the past 14 years, most recently at Peach Creek Elementary in Splendora ISD for the last two years. He previously worked at Navasota ISD and Cleveland ISD.

The investigation was prompted by multiple students who came forward with allegations of sexual abuse at the school. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit immediately investigated these claims, leading to Tavera-Arango’s arrest.

He is currently in custody at the Montgomery County Jail and is being held on a $250,000 bond.
