Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Murder of Wheelchair-Bound Victim in Odessa

ODESSA, Texas—An Ector County jury has found Brayden Roupp guilty of murder and sentenced him to life in prison and a $10,000 fine for the shooting death of a 65-year-old man.
The incident occurred on June 14, 2024, when officers responded to a call of shots fired. Evidence presented at trial showed that Roupp and a co-defendant, who had recently moved into the victim’s home, got into an argument over living arrangements.
When the victim, who was wheelchair-bound, attempted to call the police, Roupp and the co-defendant held him at gunpoint and took his phone. As the victim tried to leave his house, Roupp shot at him four times with an AK-47, then dragged him back inside.
Law enforcement officers found the victim deceased in his bedroom and Roupp inside the home with a pistol. Roupp later admitted to shooting the victim.
The Odessa Police Department led the investigation. The trial was presided over by Judge Whalen of the 70th District Court.
