Civilian Jail Employee in Galveston County Arrested for Marijuana Possession

GALVESTON, Texas—A civilian employee of Summit Food Services, a food vendor for the Galveston County Jail, was arrested on Friday for felony possession of marijuana.

On August 15, 2025, Shaylin Petteway was found to be in possession of marijuana in the front lobby of the Galveston County Jail while at work. The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit interviewed Petteway, who admitted the marijuana belonged to him. The total weight of the marijuana was 6.20 ounces.

After consulting with the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office, a felony charge of Possession of Marijuana ≤5 lbs >4 ounces was approved. Petteway was booked into the Galveston County Jail with his bond set at $5,000.

In a statement, the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office said it “will not tolerate employees possessing marijuana or any other illegal substances in or near the correctional facility.”
