62-Year-Old Inmate Dies at Harris County Jail; Investigation Underway

Harold Alexander Jr., 62, was pronounced dead at the Harris County Jail on Thursday night, July 10, 2025.

According to officials, at approximately 9:52 p.m., detention officers discovered Alexander unresponsive on his mattress. CPR was administered by a detention officer until Harris Health medical staff arrived and transported him to the jail clinic. He was pronounced deceased at 10:37 p.m. by a doctor.

Alexander had been in custody since June 25, 2025, following his arrest by the Houston Police Department on a harassment charge.

In compliance with state law, the Texas Rangers are conducting an independent investigation into the in-custody death. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Division is also reviewing the incident to ensure all policies and procedures were followed.

The Texas Commission on Jail Standards has been notified. An autopsy by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences will determine the official cause of death.
