Machete-Wielding Man Shot by Conroe Police Officer at MLK Park

A Conroe Police officer shot a man who allegedly advanced toward him while swinging a machete at MLK Park on Monday, June 9, 2025, at approximately 7:44 p.m. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Zachary Raychel, is in stable condition at a local hospital.
Conroe Police Officers were dispatched to MLK Park, located at 1001 Ave. M, following multiple 911 calls from citizens reporting a white male armed with a machete and swinging the weapon.

Officers immediately rendered life-saving measures, and emergency medical personnel transported Raychel to a local hospital where he arrived in stable condition. No civilians in the park were injured during the incident.
The case is under active investigation by the Conroe Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, in coordination with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office. The involved officer, a four-year veteran of the department, will not be identified at this time.
Chief Buckholtz extended thoughts and prayers to all affected by the incident and expressed gratitude for the officer’s safety.
