16-Year-Old Charged With Capital Murder in October 2024 Fatal Shooting of Teen in Houston

A 16-year-old suspect has been charged in the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old found dead in a parking lot at 2901 Fulton Street on October 29, 2024.

JaVory McDuell, 16, is charged with capital murder. A district judge granted approval for his name and photo to be released. The victim has been identified as Isaiah Avila, 17.

According to Houston Police Department Homicide Division Sergeants R. Watson and M. Burrow, officers responded to a shooting call at an apartment complex and found Avila suffering from a gunshot wound. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene.

An investigation identified three juvenile males as suspects. Two are currently in the custody of Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities. On February 24, a judge in the 314th District Court signed an order permitting HPD to release the name and photo of the wanted suspect, McDuell.
