Young Woman Killed After Pickup Truck Crashes Into Humble Bakery

HUMBLE, Texas — A 19-year-old woman was killed and two other people were injured after a pickup truck crashed into a bakery Tuesday afternoon in northeast Harris County.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at approximately 3:11 p.m. on June 30 at the Nothing Bundt Cakes located at 19250 W. Lake Houston Parkway.

Investigators said Sedrick Derousseau was driving a Ram 1500 west through the shopping center parking lot when he attempted to turn into a parking space.

According to the preliminary investigation, Derousseau’s foot slipped off the brake pedal and onto the accelerator, causing the truck to surge forward.

The pickup struck the south wall and entrance of the bakery before continuing into the business.

Authorities said the truck first struck Kimberly Bowman, then continued farther inside, where it collided with the sales counter and struck 19-year-old Zion Branch. Debris from the impact also struck Latoya Perkins.

Branch was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries she sustained in the crash.

Bowman and Perkins were also injured. Authorities have not released the extent of their injuries.

Investigators said Derousseau remained at the scene and showed no signs of intoxication.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division is continuing to investigate the crash.

No criminal charges have been announced as the investigation remains ongoing.
