A Fort Bend County woman is in custody following a wrong-way crash that killed three members of a Harris County family and left a young child critically injured.

Deputies with the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office arrested 27-year-old Majesti Faith Lee on December 24, charging her with intoxication manslaughter, enhanced to a first-degree felony, and one count of intoxication assault. Her bond has been set at $1,050,000.

The crash happened around 2:00 a.m. Saturday, December 20, in the 11400 block of South Highway 99. Investigators say a family of four was traveling northbound on Highway 99, just past FM 1464 toward West Airport Boulevard, when their vehicle was struck head-on by a driver traveling southbound in the northbound lanes.

Lizbeth Rodriguez Contreras, 27, and 5-year-old Camila Pena were pronounced dead at the scene. Diego Pena Jr., 26, and a 3-year-old boy were airlifted to a local hospital. Pena Jr. later died from his injuries. The 3-year-old remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

Lee, the driver of the other vehicle, was also transported by Life Flight and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators determined alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.

“Our hearts are with the family as they endure an unimaginable loss,” said Fort Bend County Sheriff Eric Fagan. “This tragedy is a painful reminder of how quickly lives can be changed when impaired driving occurs, and why making responsible choices behind the wheel is so critical.”
