Wrong-Way Driver Leads Harris County Deputies on Pursuit, Causes Crashes, and Faces DWI Charges

On November 23, 2023, a deputy from Constable Mark Herman’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a wrong-way driver in the 19700 block of the North Fwy. The driver, identified as 50-year-old Derrick J. Thomas, refused to comply, initiating a pursuit. During the chase, Thomas caused two crashes before coming to a stop, as deputies deployed spike strips.

Upon apprehension, Thomas displayed signs of intoxication, leading to the administration of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Results confirmed his impairment, resulting in his arrest. Derrick Thomas was booked into the Harris County Jail, facing charges of Evading in a Motor Vehicle, Fail To Stop and Give Information, and Driving while Intoxicated. His bond was set at $50,200.00.
