Wrong-Way Driver Killed in Fiery Head-On Crash on Tomball Parkway

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – A 25-year-old man was killed and another driver seriously injured early Saturday morning after a wrong-way crash on the Tomball Parkway in northwest Harris County, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred around 1:39 a.m. on January 17th in the 21600 block of the Tomball Parkway near Jones Road. Investigators said Julio Alberto Calero Ramirez was driving northbound in the southbound lanes when his vehicle collided head-on with a southbound car.
The impact caused the second vehicle to become fully engulfed in flames. Calero Ramirez sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver suffered major injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez praised the actions of deputies and bystanders who rushed to help as the vehicle burned.
“Kudos to everyone that acted swiftly and heroically to assist the man in the burning vehicle,” Gonzalez said, noting that wrecker drivers and deputies worked together in the rescue effort.
Three Harris County sheriff’s deputies sustained minor injuries while attempting to remove the trapped driver from the burning vehicle. They were treated by EMS at the scene and did not require transport.
The incident remains under investigation.
