Woman Wanted for Murder After Gas Station Shooting in Houston

On January 13, 2024, Houston Police Officers responded to a distress call from a passing motorist at 3821 Old Spanish Trail around 8:05 pm. The incident involved a 47-year-old man, Joseph Williams, who was found unresponsive near the gas pumps. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced him deceased upon arrival.

After further investigation and witness statements, authorities identified 35-year-old Shayla Monique Washington, also known as Shayla Monique Rugimbana, as the alleged shooter. Washington reportedly fled the scene in a silver Nissan Armada bearing Texas paper tags with the number 4544E98. A murder warrant has been issued for her arrest.

UPDATE: On Wednesday (Jan. 17), officers with HPD North Division’s Crime Suppression Team arrested Washington and she was booked into the Harris County Jail.
