Woman Killed in Collision with Garbage Truck in Northwest Harris County

A driver was killed early Friday morning in a collision with a garbage truck in northwest Harris County after reportedly disregarding a red light.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 5:12 AM in the 13200 block of West Little York Road, at the intersection with North Eldridge Parkway. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division, a 2010 Mack Garbage Truck, operated by Isaac Mejia of Waste Connections of Texas, LLC, was traveling west in the #2 westbound lane.

At the same time, a gray 2014 Toyota Corolla, driven by Alma Barahona-Sanchez, was stopped at a red light in the #2 southbound lane of the 6300 block of North Eldridge Parkway. As the Mack truck proceeded through the intersection, the Toyota Corolla reportedly disregarded the red light and entered the intersection, causing the garbage truck to broadside the driver’s side of the Toyota.

Cy-Fair EMS Medic 6 responded to the scene and pronounced Barahona-Sanchez deceased at approximately 5:30 AM. Isaac Mejia, the driver of the garbage truck, did not sustain any injuries in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division.
