Vacant House Fire Claims Life in Independence Heights

A house fire in the Independence Heights area of Houston on January 17, 2024, at 5:21 p.m., resulted in one casualty and an estimated $350,000 in damages. The incident took place in the 200 block of E. 30th St.

Firefighters responded to the scene within three minutes, discovering a vacant 1-story house engulfed in flames. Forced entry was necessary, and the home was ventilated as utilities were secured. The fire was successfully controlled, prompting the involvement of Houston Fire Department Arson investigators to determine the cause and origin.

Upon further examination, a deceased individual was discovered in a detached shed located at the rear of the house. The shed, devastated by the fire, is believed to be the origin point. The victim’s identity and details surrounding the fatality are currently under investigation.

A total of 36 personnel responded to the incident, including firefighters from Stations 15, 6, 30, 31, and 62.
