Unrestrained Toddler Killed in Crash Involving 15-Year-Old Driver in East Houston
Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a 2-year-old boy at 9200 Tidwell Road in East Houston around 6:05 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20.
The child, whose identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, was a passenger in a white Honda Pilot driven by a 15-year-old male. According to investigators, the driver was traveling eastbound when he failed to stay in a single lane, causing the vehicle to veer into a steep ditch. The Honda struck debris in the ditch before coming to a stop.
The child, who was not secured in a child safety seat, suffered injuries in the crash but was not ejected from the vehicle. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported him to Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The teenage driver, who was not impaired, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
No charges have been filed at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.
