Two Suspects Apprehended in Chambers County Shooting Incident

Sheriff Brian Hawthorne of Chambers County reported that on the evening of April 13, 2024, deputies responded to a disturbance involving weapons at a residence on Bailey Rd in Anahuac, Chambers County, TX. Upon arrival, deputies found two individuals with gunshot wounds stemming from the disturbance. The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and Crime Scene Unit (CSU) were notified and dispatched to the scene.

After securing the area, both victims received medical care and were airlifted to the nearest trauma hospital. As the investigation progressed, detectives obtained arrest warrants for De Antaye Childress and Amber Lewis from Judge M. Wheat, JP 2. Childress faces two counts of Aggravated Assault w/Deadly Weapon with a bond of $300,000, while Lewis faces one count of Aggravated Assault w/Deadly Weapon and one count of Deadly Conduct with a bond totaling $125,000.

On April 26, 2024, the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office CID, with the assistance of the US Marshals, located Childress and Lewis. In a joint operation involving the US Marshals, Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office, Clute Police Department, and Chambers County Sheriff’s Office, arrest warrants were executed in Clute, Brazoria County, Texas without incident, leading to the apprehension of both defendants.

The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to the collaborating agencies for their assistance in apprehending the suspects. They reiterated their commitment to the safety of Chambers County residents and ensuring the community remains a safe place to live.
