Two Men in Critical Condition After 70-year-old Man Opens Fire at Northeast Houston Barbeque

In the late hours of December 1, 2023, Houston Police responded to reports of a shooting at a barbeque in Northeast Houston. At approximately 11:35 pm, officers arrived at 6301 East Houston Road and observed a truck leaving the scene. Upon attempting a traffic stop, the vehicle evaded officers, prompting a pursuit.
After a brief chase, law enforcement successfully apprehended the driver, identified as Juan Antonio Magana. Additional officers responding to the incident discovered two male victims with gunshot wounds. Medical assistance was provided by the Houston Fire Department paramedics, who transported both victims to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the victims, both 40 years old, were attending a barbeque at a truck lot on East Houston Road when the shooting occurred. A witness at the scene identified Magana as the suspected shooter. Magana was subsequently transported to an area hospital for treatment and later released.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was notified of the situation, and Juan Antonio Magana, 70, has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and felony evading arrest. Magana is now booked into the Harris County Jail.
