Two Detained After Shooting on Frontage Road in Brownsville

On November 1, 2024, at around 8:51 p.m., Brownsville Police officers responded to reports of a shooting on the 9600 block of Anacua Street. Officers arrived to find 21-year-old Kevin Villafranca Torres unresponsive but breathing, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Torres was found lying on the southbound Frontage Road near 7077 N Expressway 77/83 and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

After gathering witness statements and reviewing surveillance footage, officers identified a 2011 red Chevy Cruze as the suspect vehicle in the shooting. The vehicle was registered to an address on the 1400 block of Vermont Drive in Harlingen, Texas.

In coordination with the Harlingen Police Department, Brownsville Police followed up at the Harlingen residence at around 2:44 a.m. Officers located the suspect vehicle with visible gunshot damage. The Harlingen Police SWAT team and Brownsville PD executed a search warrant at the residence, prompting the temporary evacuation of nearby residents as a safety precaution. Two individuals were detained in connection with the incident.
