Two Arrested After Woman Assaulted During Attempted Carjacking in San Benito

SAN BENITO, Texas — Two men are facing felony charges after allegedly assaulting a woman in an attempted vehicle robbery outside a local Dollar Tree in San Benito, TX.
On February 9, 2026, officers with the San Benito Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to the Dollar Tree at 850 W. Highway 77 in reference to a robbery in progress.
According to police, two male suspects approached a woman who was sitting inside her vehicle in the store’s parking lot and demanded that she get out so they could steal it. When she refused, the suspects allegedly punched her multiple times in the face and abdomen in an attempt to force her from the vehicle.
Before officers arrived, the suspects fled the scene on foot.
Using witness descriptions and identification, patrol officers quickly located and apprehended Castillo at a nearby business. Mejorado was taken into custody in a nearby neighborhood shortly afterward.
Both men were arrested and charged with Robbery, a second-degree felony, and Public Intoxication. They were arraigned and each received a $350,000 bond on the robbery charge.
The investigation remains ongoing.
