Two Arrested After Foot Chase and Assault on Deputy in South Harris County

Harris County, Texas – Two suspects are in custody following a chaotic encounter that left a deputy assaulted and a handcuffed suspect temporarily on the run Thursday afternoon.
On October 9, 2025, deputies with Harris County Constable Precinct 2 were conducting proactive patrols in the 9200 block of the Gulf Freeway, an area known for frequent trespassing and drug activity.
During their patrol, deputies spotted two individuals trespassing on private property with an active trespass affidavit. One suspect, identified as Maurice Edwards, was detained and handcuffed without incident. When deputies attempted to detain the second suspect, Marissa Beene, she became combative and ran through the parking lot.
As deputies pursued and struggled to detain Beene, she resisted arrest and assaulted one of the deputies. In the midst of the altercation, Edwards fled the scene—still in handcuffs—effectively escaping with department-issued restraints.
Backup units quickly responded, helping deputies safely subdue Beene. Edwards was later found at a nearby encampment and taken into custody.
Both suspects were positively identified using a Mobile Automatic Fingerprint Identification System and face multiple charges:
- Marissa Beene: Evading Arrest on Foot, Assault on a Peace Officer, and an outstanding warrant for Felony Burglary of a Habitation
- Maurice Edwards: Evading Arrest or Detention
The injured deputy was transported to Southeast Memorial Hospital for evaluation and has since been medically cleared to return to duty.
Constable Precinct 2 emphasized its ongoing commitment to proactive patrols and addressing criminal activity in high-problem areas across the community.
