Travis County Jury Sentences Killer to Life In Prison for Murder of His Father

Travis County District Attorney José Garza announced on Monday, December 4, 2023, that a jury in Travis County has convicted Dietrich White, 49, of Murder.

The jury selection process commenced on Monday, November 27, 2023, followed by testimony that began on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. After deliberation on Monday, December 4, 2023, the jury reached a verdict, finding Mr. White guilty of Murder. Subsequently, on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, the jury sentenced him to life in prison, to be served in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

The case dates back to November 16, 2018, when the Austin Police Department arrested Mr. White and charged him with the murder of his father, Richard White, which occurred on November 11, 2018. On December 1, 2022, Mr. White was reindicted for the offense of Murder.

Travis County District Attorney José Garza emphasized the seriousness with which his office addresses acts of violence, stating, “Our office takes acts of violence seriously and is committed to holding people who commit violent crimes accountable. We hope this outcome brings closure and peace to the victim’s family who sought justice in this case.”
