Travis County Jury Convicts Man of Attempted Sexual Assault and Aggravated Kidnapping
On Thursday, December 12, 2024, a Travis County jury found Ololade Jakande Shoetan, 44, guilty of Attempted Sexual Assault and Aggravated Kidnapping following a four-day trial.
Jury selection for Shoetan’s trial began on Monday, December 9, with testimony commencing the next day. After deliberations, the jury rendered its verdict on Thursday. On Friday, December 13, the court sentenced Shoetan to 20 years for Aggravated Kidnapping and 10 years for Attempted Sexual Assault. Both sentences will run concurrently and will be served in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Shoetan was initially arrested on June 17, 2021, by the Travis County Sheriff’s Office on charges of Sexual Assault. He was later indicted on April 18, 2023, for Sexual Assault and Aggravated Kidnapping.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Jamie Liu and Willa Cockshutt, supported by investigators, victim counselors, and legal staff. Detective Timothy Parrish led the investigation, with additional support from Deputy Bennett Fassetta and Detective Ann Rivas of the Travis County Sheriff’s Office.
Travis County District Attorney José Garza expressed gratitude to the team involved, stating, “Our office is grateful to our dedicated staff and law enforcement partners who worked tirelessly to hold the defendant accountable and seek justice for the victim.
