Texas Rangers Investigating Death of Harris County Jail Inmate After Medical Emergency

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A 56-year-old inmate housed in the Harris County Jail has died following a medical emergency, according to authorities.

Anthony Delarosa was pronounced deceased at HCA Clear Lake Hospital at 11:35 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026. Delarosa had been transported to the hospital on January 20th after experiencing a medical emergency while in custody.

Delarosa had been held in the Harris County Jail for 19 days on a charge of injury to an elderly person causing bodily injury.

As required by state law, Delarosa’s death has been reported to the Texas Commission on Jail Standards. The Texas Rangers are conducting an independent investigation into the death. In addition, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Division is reviewing the incident to determine whether all policies and procedures were properly followed, which is standard protocol following a death in custody.

The cause of death will be determined by an autopsy conducted by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
