A violent 20-year-old, Antwone Demone Gainus, has been sentenced to two life terms for aggravated assault of a correctional officer and possession of a deadly weapon while incarcerated at the Ellis Unit in Huntsville, Texas.

Following the jury’s guilty verdict, Gainus attempted to assault the officer again in the courtroom. Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and courtroom staff quickly intervened, preventing significant harm.

Gainus’ new sentence will commence after he completes his current term, stemming from a previous McLennan County conviction involving assaulting police officers, retaliation, and taking a weapon from an officer. He was initially scheduled for release in May 2031.

TDCJ expressed appreciation to the Office of Inspector General and Special Prosecution Unit for their work on the case.
