AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is mourning the death of Highway Patrol Trooper Jerry Wayne Adamick Jr., 44, who was killed Monday night, September 15, 2025, in a traffic crash while responding to an emergency call.

According to DPS, Trooper Adamick was driving on FM 945 South in San Jacinto County around 9:15 p.m. when his patrol vehicle left the roadway, struck a tree, and caught fire. He died at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.

“Our hearts are broken today,” said DPS Colonel Freeman F. Martin. “Trooper Adamick bravely served our country for many years, and we were proud to have him choose to continue his service as part of the DPS family. He had so much life ahead of him, and today we grieve with his family and friends.”

Trooper Adamick’s service to his country and state spanned decades. He served more than 20 years in the U.S. Army, completing multiple overseas tours before joining DPS as a member of Class A-2024. In June 2024, he was awarded the Veterans National Defense Award for his service.

His family shared that serving as a State Trooper had always been his dream.

Trooper Adamick was stationed in Coldspring and is survived by his wife, Roxanne, and five adult children.

He is the 242nd DPS officer to die in the line of duty since the agency’s founding in 1823. Funeral arrangements are pending.
