Texas City Police Shoot, Injure Man with Parole Warrants

TEXAS CITY, TX – An officer-involved shooting occurred late Thursday night, July 17, in the 3000 block of Tarpey Avenue, leaving one adult male in critical but stable condition. The Texas Rangers and the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the incident.
At approximately 10:14 p.m. on July 17, the Texas City Police Department Communications Center received calls reporting a disturbance, possibly involving weapons, in the 3000 block of Tarpey Avenue.
When officers arrived at the suspected residence, a male subject, later identified as James Hill, 35, emerged with his left hand concealed by a shirt. Officers repeatedly commanded Hill to “show me your hands” and “drop the shirt,” but he allegedly did not comply. Hill then walked towards the officers, pointing his concealed hand in a threatening manner, leading officers to engage him.
Hill sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the incident. He was immediately rendered aid by the Texas City Fire Department and transported to a local hospital for treatment, where he is currently in critical but stable condition.
Hill is being detained for outstanding parole warrants for Assault Family Violence/Impeding Breathing or Circulation and Felony Continuous Sexual Assault of a Child, both with no bond.
The Texas City Police Department is fully cooperating with the investigation and has stated its commitment to transparency throughout the process.
