Teen Killed, Another Critically Injured in East Houston Shooting

HOUSTON, TX – Houston police are investigating a deadly shooting that left one teenage boy dead and another critically injured Saturday morning in East Houston.
Officers with the Houston Police Department responded to reports of a shooting around 11:35 a.m. on January 17 at 9550 North Wayside Drive. When officers arrived, they found two males inside a vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
According to HPD Homicide Division Sgt. A. Dudley and Detective K. Heaverlo, Houston Fire Department paramedics transported both victims to area hospitals. One of the victims, a 16-year-old male, was later pronounced dead by doctors. His identity is pending notification of next of kin by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The second victim, a 15-year-old male, was transported to a hospital in critical condition and remains under medical care.
Investigators said witnesses reported hearing a crash following the gunfire. The victims’ vehicle was found to have struck a curb and then a bridge as they attempted to flee the scene. Police also reported that narcotics were discovered inside the crashed vehicle.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation.
