Teen Charged With Murder After Fatal Shooting in North Harris County

HOUSTON, Texas — An 18-year-old has been charged with murder after a shooting in north Harris County left a 15-year-old dead Monday night, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded at approximately 9:20 p.m. June 8 to the 400 block of Remington Ridge Drive after receiving a report of a shooting in progress.

When deputies arrived, they found 18-year-old Tejonte Givan and 15-year-old Donald Slaughter suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were transported to nearby hospitals, where Slaughter was later pronounced dead.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to conduct the investigation.

According to investigators, detectives determined that Givan allegedly shot Slaughter during a dispute over money that Slaughter reportedly owed him.

Authorities also believe Slaughter was armed during the encounter and was able to return fire, striking Givan.

Following the investigation, Givan was charged with murder and booked into the Harris County Jail.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
