Suspect Shot by Off-Duty Officer at Texas City Buc-ee’s

On Friday, August 9, 2024, an off-duty Texas City Police Officer, working security at the Buc-ee’s located at 6201 Gulf Freeway, became involved in a physical altercation with a suspect. The suspect, later identified as Conner Williams, a white male born on April 20, 1999, was confronted by the officer for shoplifting from the store.

Williams resisted the officer’s attempt to detain him, prompting the officer to use less lethal weapons in an effort to gain control. These measures proved ineffective. During the struggle, the officer transitioned to his service weapon, discharging one round. Williams sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was transported to a hospital, where he received medical treatment.

Williams was treated and released from the hospital on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. Following his release, he was taken into custody and transported to the Galveston County Jail. The Texas Rangers filed the following charges against Williams:

  1. Attempt to Take a Weapon from an Officer – State Jail Felony
    Bond: $50,000.00
  2. Resist Arrest, Search, or Transport – Misdemeanor A
    Bond: $7,500.00
