Suspect in Custody After DNA Match for 2023 Fatal Westcott Street Shooting

LaPatrick Deshawn Mitchell, 25, has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of 68-year-old John Williams, which occurred on February 21, 2023, in the 8409 block of Westcott Street in Trinity/Houston Gardens area.

According to HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W. Dunn and Detective M. Hughey, Mr. Williams was found shot inside his residence and later died on May 16, 2023, from complications related to his gunshot wounds.

Further investigation, including forensic testing, linked Mitchell’s DNA to evidence found at the scene. After consulting with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Mitchell was charged with murder. Authorities have confirmed that Mitchell is currently in custody serving time for a previous, unrelated charge.
