Houston police are searching for 22-year-old Carltonio Jackson, who has been charged with murder in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred around 2:30 p.m. on May 23 at 2200 West Bellfort Avenue in the South Main area.

Jackson, who remains at large, is wanted in the shooting death of 35-year-old Phillip Ogiemwonyi. The charge was filed Wednesday, May 28, in the 179th State District Court.

According to Houston Police Department Homicide Division Detectives S. Chettry and H. Martinez, officers from both HPD and the Metro Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at the scene. Ogiemwonyi was found on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound and was transported by Houston Fire Department paramedics to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Investigators determined that the shooting stemmed from an argument between Ogiemwonyi and the suspect while they were on a Metro bus. During the confrontation, Jackson allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot the victim before fleeing the scene.

Surveillance images helped detectives identify Jackson as the suspect. He remains at large, and a photo has been released to assist with the search.

Anyone with information on Carltonio Jackson’s whereabouts is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
