Suspect Charged in Stabbing Incident on De Soto Street

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the stabbing of a woman at 5500 De Soto Street around 1:15 p.m. on Monday (June 10). Michael Edward Banks, 42, is charged with aggravated assault of a family member in the 183rd State District Court. A booking photo of Banks is attached to this news release.

The 20-year-old victim was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detective J. Wright reported that HPD patrol officers responded to an assault at the above address and located a male matching the suspect’s description. Officers learned that the victim had been transported by private vehicle to the hospital for treatment of stab wounds. The suspect, later identified as Banks, was detained without incident.

Further investigation determined that Banks had come to the apartment and got into an argument with the victim. The argument escalated, and Banks assaulted the woman and stabbed her with a pair of scissors.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted, and Banks was subsequently charged for his role in the incident. Banks was then booked into the Harris County Jail.
