Suspect Charged in Fatal Hit-and-Run Following Police Pursuit in Houston

Houston, TX – Charges have been filed against Jacolby Pendleton, 30, in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred following a police pursuit on Thursday evening.

Pendleton is charged with murder in the 184th State District Court. The incident happened around 8:25 p.m. on June 6 when Houston police officers attempted to stop Pendleton, a known felony suspect, in a black Nissan Kicks SUV. Pendleton refused to stop, leading officers on a short chase.

The pursuit ended at 3500 Rebecca Street when Pendleton lost control of the vehicle, which left the roadway, struck a dumpster, rolled, and hit a female pedestrian in a walking path at an apartment complex. The victim, a 68-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Pendleton fled the scene on foot and is not currently in custody. He had been arrested on May 29 and recently released from jail.
