HPD patrol officers responded to an assault in-progress call at the above address and observed the residence on fire. Officers and Houston Fire Department firefighters ensured everyone (three persons inside) exited the residence.
The injured female told officers that prior to observing the fire in the kitchen area, she witnessed her son, Flowers, assault her brother, Mr Stephens, with a hammer inside the residence. Flowers then assaulted the woman, causing minor injuries. After all three exited the residence, paramedics transported Stephens to an area hospital, where doctors later pronounced him deceased.
Officers arrested Flowers at the scene. While in custody, on January 26, Flowers was charged with arson for his role for setting the fire. Following subsequent investigation and consultation with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, on Wednesday (August 30), the charge against Flowers was upgraded to murder. Flowers has remained in custody since the January incident.
