Suspect Arrested After High-Speed Chase, Crash, and Foot Pursuit in Southeast Harris County

HOUSTON, TX – Harris County Precinct 2 deputies arrested a man Friday evening following a high-speed pursuit that ended in a crash and foot chase through a residential area.
According to deputies, the incident occurred on January 2, 2026, when evening shift deputies attempted to stop a vehicle driven by a suspect wanted in connection with felony aggregate theft cases tied to previous thefts at an H-E-B on Blackhawk Boulevard and South Sam Houston Parkway East, as well as a Mi Tienda on Spencer Highway.
Deputies located the suspect vehicle traveling westbound on Fuqua Street before it turned northbound onto Monroe Road. When a traffic stop was initiated, the driver refused to stop and fled, reaching speeds exceeding 70 miles per hour through a neighborhood.
During the pursuit, the suspect struck another vehicle, causing damage and injuries to the other driver, but continued to flee the scene. The chase ended when the suspect lost control and crashed into a culvert. The driver then exited the vehicle and attempted to run from deputies on foot.
Deputies deployed department-issued Tasers and took the suspect into custody without further incident. The driver was identified as 36-year-old Edwin Santiago.
Santiago was charged with Evading Arrest in a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Stop and Render Aid, Aggregate Theft, Theft, and Failure to Appear on a larceny warrant. He was booked into the Harris County Jail.
