Danthony Simms-Coleman

On Friday, June 14, 2024, Deputy Deteryon Fontonet of Constable Mark Herman’s Special Operations Unit identified a vehicle connected to recent robberies at Academy retail stores. Deputy Fontonet attempted a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle, which led to a brief pursuit before the vehicle stopped in the 5300 block of Slashwood Drive.

During the felony stop, the driver, identified as Danthony Simms-Coleman, exited the vehicle and brandished an AR15 rifle. Ignoring commands, Simms-Coleman fired multiple shots, striking Deputy Fontonet and his patrol car. Deputy Fontonet returned fire and sought cover after being hit.

Additional units arrived, provided care to Deputy Fontonet, and apprehended Simms-Coleman. Deputy Fontonet was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening facial injuries and has since been released.
