Stolen Vehicle Recovered in Freddiesville; Driver Arrested by Gulf Coast Task Force

FREDDIESVILLE, Texas – Investigators with the Gulf Coast Auto Crimes Task Force recovered a stolen vehicle and arrested a suspect following a multi-agency operation on Dec. 31, authorities said.
The vehicle, a 2015 Kia Optima, had been reported stolen to the Alvin Police Department in November 2025. Investigators located the car in the 4500 block of Swan Street in Freddiesville and observed two individuals enter it before leaving the residence.
The Gulf Coast Auto Crimes Task Force, along with the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division, conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 4400 block of Highway 6 in Hitchcock. The driver was identified as 46-year-old Daniel Phillips.
The Galveston County District Attorney’s Office approved charges of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle against Phillips. He was booked with a $50,000 bond. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.
The Gulf Coast Auto Crimes Task Force is a multi-agency initiative funded by the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority. Participating agencies include the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, Galveston Police Department, League City Police Department, La Marque Police Department, and Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office. The task force supports criminal investigations, crime prevention, and analytical efforts across the region.
