Slow-Speed Pursuit Ends in DWI Arrest on Sam Houston Tollway
Walter Aguilar

A suspected impaired driver was arrested following a short pursuit after Harris County Constable Precinct Two deputies were alerted to a possible intoxicated motorist.

On Thursday, January 1, 2026, Deputies located the vehicle traveling at an unsafe slow speed in the 5400 block of the South Sam Houston Tollway East and observed the driver fail to maintain a single lane. While following the vehicle, deputies reported four consecutive lane changes, nearly striking the right-side barrier and driving onto the shoulder.

When deputies activated their emergency lights and sirens, the driver failed to yield, prompting a brief pursuit at very low speeds. The vehicle was eventually stopped without incident.

The driver, identified as Walter Aguilar, showed clear signs of intoxication, according to deputies. He was transported to the Pearland Jail, where a full DWI investigation was conducted. Aguilar agreed to provide a breath sample, which reportedly showed results more than twice the legal limit.

After consultation with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Aguilar was transported to the Harris County Joint Processing Center and booked on charges of Driving While Intoxicated and Evading.

Authorities remind the public that reporting suspected impaired drivers can prevent serious injuries or fatalities and encourage anyone who sees dangerous driving behavior to call 911 immediately.
