Shoplifting Suspect Accused of Assaulting Constable Deputy Outside North Freeway Target

HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly assaulting a law enforcement officer during a shoplifting investigation at a Target store in north Harris County.

On July 23, 2025, a sergeant with Constable Mark Herman’s Office responded to the Target located in the 19500 block of the North Freeway following a report of a suspected shoplifter. Upon arrival, store loss prevention personnel informed the sergeant that a male suspect had exited the store with stolen merchandise.

The sergeant located the suspect in the parking lot and issued verbal commands to stop. According to authorities, the suspect began resisting and physically assaulted the sergeant, including applying pressure to the officer’s throat during the struggle.

The sergeant deployed a department-issued Taser, and with help from additional deputies, the suspect was detained and identified as 33-year-old Chance Davis.

Davis was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail on a charge of Assault on a Peace Officer. His bond was set at $10,000 by the 337th District Court.
