Shooting Incident Claims Life of 20-Year-Old Man in Austin

On Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at approximately 11:54 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a call reporting a possible deceased person at 1101 Cumberland Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered 20-year-old Rickye Henderson inside a vehicle, unresponsive and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Witnesses at the scene identified 20-year-old Willie Jones as the suspect. Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists arrived to process the scene and interview witnesses. The investigation revealed that Henderson was seated in a vehicle when Jones allegedly shot him.

Henderson succumbed to his injuries shortly after the incident.

Willie Jones was taken into custody by law enforcement officers and has been charged with 1st Degree Felony Murder.
