Rosenberg Police Officers Show Restraint in Armed Stolen Vehicle Encounter

The Rosenberg Police Department (RPD) has commended its officers for their bravery and composure during a potentially deadly encounter this past Tuesday, April 8th.
Officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle parked at a local apartment complex. Upon locating the vehicle, they encountered a masked 17-year-old suspect inside. The suspect refused to comply with officers’ commands and fled on foot. During the subsequent foot pursuit, officers observed that the suspect was armed with a firearm. Despite repeated commands to drop the weapon, the suspect continued to hold onto it, escalating the danger of the situation.
As the suspect ran towards a nearby business, he tripped and dropped the firearm. However, instead of surrendering, he picked the weapon back up. With officers in close proximity, the situation was moments away from a potentially tragic outcome. Ultimately, the suspect chose to discard the firearm before being taken into custody. The firearm was later confirmed to be stolen as well.
The Rosenberg Police Department emphasized that despite no shots being fired and no lives being lost, this was undoubtedly a life-or-death situation. They lauded their officers for demonstrating remarkable discipline and restraint in the face of a significant threat, highlighting their commitment to protecting the public while putting themselves in harm’s way.
The department expressed gratitude to its officers for their unwavering commitment to the Rosenberg community, acknowledging the inherent dangers of their profession and the honor with which they carry out their duties.
