Rosenberg Motel Standoff Ends with $3 Million in Damages, Suspect Arrested on Multiple Charges
Landon Blayne Hutchins

On June 28, 2024, at approximately 6:19 PM, Rosenberg Police Officers responded to reports of a Robbery at Motel 6, located at 27927 Southwest FWY. Upon arrival, officers attempted to contact the reporting party, 45-year-old Landon Blayne Hutchins of Gonzales, Texas. Hutchins responded by making threats against the officers and barricading himself in a room, claiming to have multiple firearms and a child hostage.

As officers assessed the situation and evacuated hotel residents and staff, Hutchins proceeded to cause extensive damage to his room. This escalated to the point where he flooded the entire hotel. The Fort Bend Regional SWAT Team was activated and responded to the scene. After determining that Hutchins’ claim of having a child hostage was false and facing non-cooperation from him during negotiations, SWAT members forcibly entered the room and safely apprehended him.

Initial estimates from the investigation suggest that Hutchins may have caused upwards of $3 million in damage to the hotel. He was subsequently arrested and charged with Terroristic Threat Against a Peace Officer (State Jail Felony), Arson (2nd Degree Felony), and Criminal Mischief greater than $300K (1st Degree Felony).

The Rosenberg Police Department acknowledged the assistance of the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, the Rosenberg Fire Department, Fort Bend EMS, Motel 6 staff, and local businesses in responding to the incident and aiding displaced individuals.
