Robbery Suspect Fatally Shot by Store Employee in South Houston

A robbery suspect was fatally shot during an attempted robbery at a business located at 8361 Winkler Drive around 6:10 a.m. on Thursday, May 1. The case will be referred to a Harris County grand jury for review.
According to Houston Police Department Homicide Division Detectives K. Persad and L. Yasin, officers responded to a shooting call at the location and found a male with a gunshot wound behind the store’s purchase counter. Paramedics pronounced the individual dead at the scene.
Investigators determined the man had attempted to rob the business when an employee discharged a firearm, striking the suspect. The employee remained on the scene, spoke with investigators, and was later released after questioning.
The identity of the deceased male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
