Repeat Violent Offender Sentenced to Life for Brutal Knife Attack in Montgomery County

A Montgomery County jury delivered a life sentence on April 9, 2025, to 45-year-old Sigifredo Baltazar Gonzalez, Jr., a repeat violent offender found guilty of a brutal knife attack that left a woman fearing for her life. Judge Phil Grant imposed the sentence in the 9th District Court following a gripping trial that highlighted Gonzalez’s extensive criminal history and disregard for human life.
The trial, which began on April 7, 2025, saw jurors hear emotional testimony from the victim, who recounted the terrifying assault where Gonzalez held a knife to her throat, threatened her life, and brutally attacked her. A passing motorist witnessed the horrifying event, bravely intervened, and called 911, providing crucial support and alerting law enforcement.
Paramedics from the Montgomery County Hospital District (MCHD) provided immediate care to the victim before transporting her to the hospital. Deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) quickly arrived and launched an investigation, leading to an arrest warrant and Gonzalez’s apprehension despite fleeing the scene.
Following the presentation of evidence, the jury convicted Gonzalez of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (a second-degree felony) and Assault Causing Bodily Injury to a Family Member with a Previous Conviction (a third-degree felony).
During the punishment phase, prosecutors presented evidence of Gonzalez’s five prior felony convictions, including Robbery and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The court also heard chilling testimony from law enforcement regarding a separate incident where Gonzalez violently attacked a young officer, attempted to steal their firearm, and stole a patrol vehicle.
Judge Grant sentenced Gonzalez to life in prison for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and 20 years for Assault Causing Bodily Injury, with the sentences to run concurrently. Due to the severity of the crimes and Gonzalez’s violent history, he will not be eligible for parole for 30 years.
