Quick Response by Austin Police Officers Saves Teenager’s Life

In the early hours of September 28, 2023, Officers Nathan Canche and Lucas Parker of the Austin Police Department demonstrated remarkable composure and swift action that saved a teenager’s life. At approximately 5:39 am, the officers responded to a distressing 911 call in the 200 block of West Avenue, where a teenager had been stabbed in downtown Austin.

Upon arrival, Officers Canche and Parker found the young victim severely injured and bleeding profusely. Acting promptly, they assessed the injuries and skillfully applied multiple tourniquets to slow the bleeding before contacting Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) for urgent medical assistance. Their quick thinking and efficient first aid administration played a crucial role in stabilizing the victim’s condition, ensuring his survival.

In recognition of their heroic efforts, Austin Interim Chief Police Robin Henderson expressed gratitude, stating, “Officers Canche and Parker’s calm approach and dedication to administering first aid treatment helped reassure and save the young victim’s life. We are so thankful to have officers like you in the department.”
